Alloys and Interfaces
A mature understanding of the synthesis and properties of dielectric/semiconductor interfaces, alloys, and heterostructures will be critical in enabling future technologies based on β-Ga2O3. The GAME MURI team will systematically investigate such hetero-interfaces to understand the relationship between their synthesis, structural properties, and electronic/optical properties. The principal objectives of this theme can be summarized into three broad areas:
- to understand the interfacial electronic properties of dielectic/semiconductor junctions, including band offsets, trap states, and extreme-field behavior;
- to develop growth science for β-(Al,Ga)2O3 and β-(In,Ga)2O3 alloys toward understanding the effects of strain and polymorphs, and to understand the structural, electronic, and optical properties of these alloys, and
- to investigate growth of semiconductor heterostructures, and to elucidate bandstructure, transport phenomena, and optical properties, especially in quantum-confined systems.
